Organic Lawn Care
Are you considering an organic lawn maintenance program to improve your family's health and safety?
If you are concerned about walking on your lawn after having received a fertilizer or other treatment, you may want to consider an organically maintained lawn. Organic lawn management includes fertilization, pre-emergent treatment for weeds, and organic grub control.
Our Organic Program is based on applications of organic fertilization, corn gluten pre-emergent, and grub control using nematode applications. . Each year your soil will become healthier and your lawn will become more self-sustaining. It is essential to thicken your lawn as much as possible to keep undesirable species from taking over the lawn. Yearly seeding is recommended as well as aeration which will help stimulate root development, strengthening the lawn and thus preventing damage. We also recommend composting the lawn at least once every other year. Weed control can be done organically with a non selective organic weed killer and/or supplemented with hand weeding. We will test your soil annually.
The four stages of the Organic Lawn Care Program are: Organic Late Spring, Organic Summer, Organic Early Fall, and Organic Winter using an all natural organic fertilizer that replenishes the soil and supplies your lawn with the nutrients that are needed to support prolonged greening and root development. A fish emulsion fertilizer treatment will also be made as needed or in lieu of a fertilizer treatment.
Other recommended applications: Corn Gluten Meal can be applied as a "pre-emergent" weed and crabgrass control. This product is completely safe; in fact, it is used in many pet and animal foods. It also naturally contains 10% slow release Nitrogen acting as your first fertilization. Nematodes - These are micro-organisms applied in early fall that attack adult grubs, both Chafer and the White Beetle. It is 100% organic and will prevent grub damage. They can also be used in the spring to treat a grub infestation. Lime - Balanced blend of Magnesium and Calcium to improve soil conditions and pH levels. This is applied in the fall. Correcting acidic soil, grasses are able to absorb more nutrients and weeds are less likely to thrive, making the fertilization plan more effective. We recommend annual overseeding or spot seeding in the fall to promote a lush lawn.
